The real name of Swami Vivekananda was Narendra Nath Datta. He was born on 26 January 1863 in a Bengali family in Calcutta. Swami Vivekananda's father's name was Vishwanath Datta and his mother's name was Bhuvaneshwari Devi. His grandfather Durga Charan Dutta was a scholar of "Sanskrit" and "Persian" languages.
Swami Vivekananda was very influenced by the Hindu epics Mahabharata and Ramayana as his mother used to tell him these stories from his childhood. Swami Vivekananda used to read many books, as he had a hobby of reading books. He was a very clever child in school and he was a good sportsman too. He used to take part in every competition in school.
Swami Vivekananda had a hobby of reading books, as a result, he had gained knowledge by reading religious books like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Bhagwat Geeta, Vedas, and Puranas. He was also very good at Indian classical music. Swami Vivekananda had graduated in Arts and had studied Sanskrit and Bengali literature he completed his education in 1884.
Ramkrishna Paramhansa was Swami Vivekananda's guru. Narendra Nath Dutta was named Swami Vivekananda by his Guru Ramakrishna. Swami Vivekananda was devoted to his Hindu religion. He was very unhappy with the poverty and illiteracy in the country. He had a dream to make India a self capable country.
Swami Vivekananda preached Hinduism and the Indian culture to the world. At the parliament of the world's religion in 1893 at Chicago Swami Vivekananda was a representative of the Hindu religion. There all people were impressed by the Swami Vivekananda speech. Because of his speech, the world came to know about Indian culture and Hinduism after the speech Swami Vivekananda had become a world-famous personality.
After returning from America Swami Vivekananda had decided to travel all over India and spread his thought among the people. He spread awareness among people with his knowledge.
In the year 1902, this nobleman died, in his memory, a statue is made at Kanyakumari. On 12 January the birthday of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated as a "National youth day" all over India.
